Head 2 Head Walk, Dublin – September 29th 2013
The Head 2 Head Walk is part of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s Beds for Beamount Campaign. This is a campaign to raise €2.5m for 12 in-patient isolation rooms in Beaumont Hospital for people with cystic fibrosis. ‘Beaumont Hospital is one of three major centres in Ireland for adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) care, yet at present there are only 4 in-patient rooms for CF patients. Recent research and international standards show that 12 CF in-patient rooms are needed as a matter of urgency in the hospital.’ www.cfireland.ie
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease. It primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system. What you may not know is that Ireland has the highest incidence of Cystic Fibrosis in the world with approximately 1 in 19 Irish people ‘carrying’ one copy of the altered gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. I had heard about Cystic Fibrosis but was blown away by these statistics. How I came to know about the Head 2 Head Walk was through a friend in work. She asked me to sponsor her so I decided to do one better and register for the walk myself. I have also registered my dear hubby but haven’t told him yet – I wouldn’t advise you take example from me on that one! What I will ask though is that you share this post and create awareness.
The Head 2 Head Walk is taking place on Sunday, September 29th 2013 for the first time! The full route, Howth Head to Bray Head is 26 miles and takes place in the beautiful and picturesque surrounds of Dublin Bay. There are two shorter routes too, so something to suite every fitness level and those are Howth Head to Sandymount and Sandymount to Bray Head.
The walk from Howth will start from 9.00 am sharp. You can join in at Sandymount at 12 pm sharp and there will be registration desks at both locations.
The registration fee is €10 per person and you need to be over 16 years of age. To register just click this link www.cfireland.ie/index.php/donate and select Beds for Beaumont in the drop down menu beside event and in the message state ‘Head 2 Head Registration’. For information on where to send your raised donations, click here to bring you to the Cystic Fibrosis Ireland website, where you will find bank details and contact information should you wish to register by email or application form instead. Registration Closing Date is September 12th.
