World Hepatitis Day - Think Again

Did you know that Viral Hepatitis kills 1.5 million people worldwide each year? I didn’t until writing this post. I also didn’t know that in 2010 the World Health Organisation gave hepatitis its own World Hepatitis Day making it one of only four official disease-specific world health days that exist. The date of July 28th was decided on and each year since people worldwide get together in person and through social media to create awareness of the disease. 

So what exactly is Hepatitis?

Viral hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by a virus. There are five different hepatitis viruses, hepatitis A, B, C, D and E.’ (worldhepatitisday.org)

The World Hepatitis Day website is full of everything you need to know about the different viruses, their transmission, prevention and treatment. It will also advise on how you can get involved with spreading the world and creating awareness. This year a really great video was produced to help with our understanding and help get the message across. The campaign is called Think Again and you should think again!
