I blogged about the Yelp Dublin Festival of Firsts (January 28th – February 28th) at the end of January. If you missed it you can read it again here and you most likely will want to know a little more after reading how I got on with my introduction to it a couple of weeks ago.

Oolong Flower Power Tea and Coffee

A couple of weeks ago, Yelp Dublin, a handful of Dublin based blogger’s, the friendly, informative and innovative owner of Oolong Flower Power, Richard McDermott and my very grateful self sat down to a feast at Oolong Flower Power. It was my first time inside the premises, which was perfect timing as we were there to celebrate the Festival of Firsts after all. I’d walked by the shop on many an occasion as I suspected they only sold tea, something I have very little knowledge of. However that night Oolong Flower Power put me straight, they sell about 40 varieties of coffee of the 300 plus loose tea and coffee varieties that greet you in glass jars as you enter the shop, the biggest emporium in the country.

Oolong Flower Power - Blooming Tea

That evening we weren’t treated to coffee, we were treated to tea, Blooming Tea called Divine Lilly. Sitting down to a long table on really comfy couches and chairs with William Morris designer wallpaper and glass chandeliers our table laid before us. Adorned with china teacups, saucers, a carefully chosen selection of  bread, anchovies and The Real Olive Co. olives our glass tea pot of Blooming Tea arrived. If you get a chance to order this tea, do. The bud awakens to bloom into a beautiful flower, flavouring the water as it does. It really is artistic which is probably why making tea is in fact an art. With Green, Black, Red, White, Yellow, Blooming, Rare or Organic tea from China, India, Nepal, Taiwan, Japan or Sri Lanka to choose from at Oolong Flower Power, it really got me thinking that I wished Oolong had existed before I went on all my worldly travels as I could have known what teas to try and what to look out for.

Oolong Flower Power - Teazzas

Followed by a chat with Richard who opened Oolong Flower Power back in the summer of 2013 and who plans on opening more around the city, the fabulous Teazzas began to arrive. There are a total of seven teazzas to choose from and that night I got to try all seven. They are called Teazzas because the passata is infused with tea! Clever and really delicious. My favourites were definitely the Quatro Fromaggio’, ‘The Nutty Pear’ and the “Rustic Goats Cheese’ but they were all delicious. Pictured below are the ‘Spanish Sun’, ‘By the Sea’ and aforementioned ‘Rustic Goats Cheese’.

Following the feast of Teazzas, which were devoured might I add … taking photographs of food and talking blog is hungry stuff you know, we were treated to a cocktail, a Strawberry and Champagne Green Iced Tea, non-alcoholic with a healthy and refreshing effect. I could just imagine myself making a bee-line to Oolong for these during the summer months.

During the day Oolong serves gourmet sandwiches, wraps and salads. During the evening the Teazzas and Salads are on offer. All the food served is locally sourced and has health in mind with items such as the Teazzas only working out at 365 calories and salads containing super foods. If you haven’t got a clue about what tea or coffee to order, the trained staff will find and brew or filter one that suits your taste and mood. If you want to take tea or coffee home, it is a retail shop so you can get it bagged and even buy a new teapot to brew your selection in the comfort of your own home.

However even after all this there is something even more special about Oolong and that is the fact that it does not sell alcohol but yet it opens until 11pm each night. It provides comfy couches on the lower level along with free Wi-Fi which really makes for a match in heaven for any of us who wants an alternative to the pub or a change of scenery to do online work.

Since that night, I’ve been back to Oolong and it has become one of my favourite places to visit or to chill. I love the knowledge that it will be there if I feel like a change of scenery to catch up on my blog or read a book past the usual café opening hours. It was a great Festival of Firsts introduction and I’m really looking forward to the other Festival events I have RSVP’d to.
