“Anything but Chardonnay” or what people would call the ABC Club started some years back. Many people were turning away from Chardonnay and moving towards more acidic wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Italian Pinot Grigio’s, but what these people may not have realised is that some of the best wines in the world are made from the Chardonnay grape.

All of the great white wines from Burgundy are made from this noble grape. People may say they do not like Chardonnay but when asked if they like Chablis, the most famous of all the white wines from Burgundy, they usually reply yes, and just like all the other great wines from Burgundy, Chablis is made from 100% Chardonnay.

Chablis wines are fresh and crisp with green apple flavors and have lively acidity. You can pick up a bottle of Chablis for around € 14 or if you wanted a fuller wine with a bit more body you could go for a Chablis Premier Cru for around €22.00.

So get out there and try it and you will come away with a different view on Chardonnay.

Cheers, Sláinte,

Patrick
