Bevvy of the Week – Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico

“Now that the madness is over” and we find ourselves deep into the middle of winter, why not let our minds drift away a little, far from this cold dark land to rolling hills, covered with vines and were wine flows from the taps.

No, this is not a magical place I made up.  This place is called Tuscany and the most famous wine produced there is Chianti.

In the past Chianti had a bit of a bad name for itself as the wine ranged from very good to crap, but in recent years a big effort has been made to improve the overall quality of the wines produced in the Tuscany region.

Chianti Classico’s are amongst the finest wines in the region and most are made from 100% Sangiovese (Grape variety). These wines have good tannins and strength with cherry and plum notes and should have a nice long lingering finish. They will go well with pizza, pasta, light cheese and olives. So if you can’t make it to Tuscany anytime soon, you can always pick up a nice bottle of Chianti Classico for around €10 and dream.

Cheers, Sláinte,

Patrick
