Bevvy of the Week – Georges Duboeuf, Beaujolais Nouveau

Georges Duboeuf, Beaujolais Nouveau

This week I would like to recommend the latest offering from Georges Duboeuf – their 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau is only available from the third Thursday in November and sale to the general public is not allowed before this.

Bevvy of the Week - Georges Duboeuf, Beaujolais Nouveau
The release of Beaujolais Nouveau was once a very big deal, so much so that people would rush out and try be the first to get their hands on a bottle. Back in the 80’s a group of businessmen rented a plane to fly to France and return to Ireland being the first people in the country to have Beaujolais Nouveau. However, it was not meant to be. Their plane got into trouble and crashed in bad weather killing all on board. Anyway back to the wine.

Beaujolais Nouveau is a taste of what Beaujolais has to offer for the following year. As with all wine from the Beaujolais region it is made from the Gamay grape. Beaujolais Nouveau 2015 is light-bodied, soft, with a good fruit character. Flavors of red berries and strawberry jam drop off to a lingering finish.

You can pick up a bottle of Beaujolais for around €12.

Enjoy, Sláinte,

Patrick
