Wellington Weekender – Free Three Day Festival – June Fri 21 – Sun 23
Last Saturday I headed into Dublin Town and made a visit to The Workman’s Club for the Wellington Weekender Free Three Day Festival … why call it a Wellington Weekender when there were no wellies to be seen … because The Workman’s Club is on Wellington Quay silly! The reason for my visit was to check out the Afternoon Market and maybe catch an act or two. If you aren’t familiar with The Workman’s Club, there is a rooftop ‘smoking area’ … on Saturday this area became the home of the rooftop market. It was a pretty sweet set up really. When I took myself upstairs I was greeted by the first of the market folk set up to sell their wares, it was Ed from Ed’s Indie Disco on Today FM, you can connect with him here. He had a great selection of music CD’s and Books along with rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia and I’d been advised prior to my arrival a healthy collection of vinyl which sold like hotcakes! … Speaking of hotcakes, next to Ed was Davina Smith from Davina Smith Nutrition who you can connect with here. Davina is a talented baker and she had the most scrumptious selection of homemade breads, mini pies and buns … tasty! On the same floor was a mixture of clothing and comic books. In the adjacent room the singer/songwriters took to the mic and played guitar.
After I rummaged through the CD’s, made my purchases and munched on Davina’s bun’s … let me rephrase that … agh, you know what I mean! I treated myself to a cocktail, it is a fully stocked bar you know, and I headed out onto the rooftop to the rest of the market. There were lots on offer. Jewellery from Firefly Designs and Silver Dragon Jewellery. Photography from Ste Murphy. Designs from White Lady Art. Not to mention more cakes, candy, clothing along with cd’s and vinyl. As I said it was a really nice set up and perfect for browsing through on a Saturday afternoon with a cocktail in hand and live music in your ears. For the next Wellington Weekender which will be in August … or so I’m told … I’m going to make sure I get in on the music side of things and make the most of getting a chance to witness some talented bands live. I’ll definitely pop by the market again and depending on what mood I’m in I might just wear a pair of wellies … or maybe not.
