Art at Alchemy: The Skill Of Food Styling @ Alchemy Juice Company

I’m a big fan of Yelp Dublin (regular readers will know this) and have been to a number of their events over the last year and more. So when I was told about their search for Dublin’s Food Porn Star … I was all ears and eyes for what is to be one of their most ‘lick your screen’ foodie events to date. To get the ball rolling I was invited along to the Art at Alchemy: The Skill of Food Styling at the Alchemy Juice Company in BT2 on Grafton Street. I knew it would be my last Yelp event for a while (mommy to be and all that) so was eager to attend, say hello to some new faces, bye to some familiar faces and learn some insider tips on how I should be styling my food for The Life of Stuff.

Hosted by Emily, Yelp’s Community Manager and Food Stylist Jette Virdi, the evening was a laugh and a half. The aim of the event was to teach us how to take great looking food photo’s with our phones – very important if considering the title of #dublinfoodpornstar. To help aid with our masterclass Jette had positioned around Alchemy mini studio’s for us to get über creative with some food and drink, its styling and to practice our photography. I teamed up with a couple of very artistic new Yelp Dublin faces, Suzy and Lottie. We took advantage of the food styling masterclass and had great craic with our hashtags for our published photographs, although I have to admit to being the one with the dirtiest mind (#sexyvegshots #mommydoesdinner #iloveabitofroughage) (blame it on the #mommytobe hormones)

The biggest tip I took from the masterclass was …

  • Take your foodporn photo in the Square format on your phone – that way it is easier to upload to instagram and you will not cut off important bits of the photo to resize it!

I have to say I am happy with the photographs I took and know where I could have made them better … you can have a look for yourself below …

Before / After

To keep up to date with all the goings-on with Dublin Food Porn Star – be sure to check for the hashtag #dublinfoodpornstar on Twitter and Facebook and although you may be caught licking your phone or PC screen at least these porn photo’s ARE NOT #NSFW 🙂
