Kilkenny Arts Festival 9 – 18 August 2013
Kilkenny is one of my favourite cities in Ireland, which reminds me I must write up a Five Fabulous Reasons post to tell you why but in the meantime I’m going to, through the magic of photo’s, show you a little of what I got up to on the last day of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. Which was last Sunday August 18th by the way.
We spent our day at exhibitions, chatting to artists, sneaking in an alcoholic beverage here and there, they’ve some great pubs in Kilkenny, and basically soaking up the sunshine that greeted us as we skipped around the city. Okay I may have skipped once or twice, my fine gentleman nil times but sure heh it sounds kinda romantic and carefree and that’s the mood we were in.
The Kilkenny Arts Festival has been going since 1974 which makes it nearly 40 years old and I’m sure there will be even bigger celebrations in Kilkenny next year when it’s birthday rolls in. To give you an idea of what goes on at the festival you can check out their website here (after you read my post that is). This year there were over 500 Artists exhibiting, presenting, acting, singing, dancing, reading, recording or filming at the festival’s 150 or there abouts events. Wow! Think ‘Music, Theatre, Literature, Visual Art, Dance, Craft, Children’s and Street Theatre’.
There was so much going on over the ten days of the festival that it was a shame we didn’t get to spend at least one full weekend or even have a couple of weekdays there to get in on the action. A tip for you if you are going next year is to check out the programme of events online or get your hands on a hard copy and plan your day or days. It is all very well skipping about the place with not a care in the world when the show you wanted to see started 45 mins previously. That was an example. Only an example. I would also say that if you are on Facebook or Twitter then connect with the festival and that way you’ll always be up to date on what’s going on.
Anyhoo here are some photo’s of what we enjoyed strolling around the city free of charge …
