Eight Super Stocking Fillers for Travel Lovers
As a Travel Blogger, and a Travel Writer you could say I’m a bit travel mad! I love it, and luckily for me so too does my husband and by the looks of it our two little boys. As Mark Twain put it ‘Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness’. And so it can only be good for us all. Take me travelling across Ireland or faraway seas, I want to experience it all. And when there make it as different as it can be because as the great George Bernard Shaw put it ‘I dislike feeling at home when I am abroad’. But enough of my ramblings – here are my ‘Eight Super Stocking Fillers for Travel Lovers’ – and most are from Irish companies!
Phone Lens Kit
€10 from designist.ie
Love taking travel photos? Then this Phone Lens Kit from Designist might help you get that perfect shot. The set of three clip lenses turn your mobile phone or tablet into a mini mobile photography studio. Compatible with most phones and tablets. And at €10 a great Kris Kindle or stocking filler gift.
Pit Putty Natural Deodorant
Not only is this bestselling deodorant perfectly suitable for your hand luggage, suitcase or backpack. Pit Putty is Irish, handmade, vegan, cruelty-free, made from 100% natural ingredients and free from all toxic nasties. Absorbing perspiration to leave you fresh and dry, why wouldn’t you want to smell great whilst running for that connecting flight. Available in four scents (Lemongrass & Tea Tree, Lavender & Lemon, Three Flowers and Lime, Basil & Mandarin) Pit Putty also comes in a mini version that lasts about 1-2 weeks and costs €2.95.
A Travel Book
Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is top of my list for one of the best travel books written. But there are many to choose from to keep your travel lover friend or family member entertained or inspired. There are also a number of Best Travel Book lists available online to help you choose the perfect read. The Telegraph’s ‘20 Best Travel Books of All Time‘ is ideal for a quick synopsis, or go a step further with Condé Naste Traveler’s ‘86 Greatest Travel Books of All Time.’
Ranging in price and size from approx €12 from stojo.co and a number of Irish retailers.
I have a Stojo and I love it. I take it with me when I’m out and about. It’s neat as it collapses into a disc that can be popped into your pocket or bag. It’s kind to the planet because it’s made from food grade recycled materials and it saves on using a throw away cup. It’s made from BPA free materials and it’s leak proof so it’s safe. Finally not only does it help save the planet, it also helps save your pocket. Because you can bring your own home brew out and about, or you can get BYO cup discount – available from most good coffee shops.
Box Portable Smartphone Charger
Approx €22 from box-products.com and a number of Irish based retailers.
I have the pink version of this Box phone charger. It also comes in black. The charger is extremely light compared to other chargers I have. Its slim design feature means it’s the perfect size for keeping in a small bag or even you pocket should you need to charge your phone or top up your tablet. When travelling about, I usually pop mine into a spare microfiber sunglasses bag to keep it pristine and keep any charging cables I need together.
Baressential Handmade Soaps
from €5.50 from baressential.ie
I’ve tried, tested and love these handmade soups from Baressential (who are actually based in my hometown of Athy in Kildare). As a travel lover, I know all about the 100ml beauty product and toiletries restriction for hand luggage. These little soapy beauts are the answer to saving lots of time squirting cleansing lotion and toner into a travel bottle. Soaps are liquid and so these can travel in your hand luggage. But most importantly each soap has a different speciality. For example the Lavender and Cedarwood is perfect for oil prone skin, and the Chamomile Meadow helps nourish, tone and soothe skin.
Jo Browne Solid Perfumes for Him and Her
€24 from jobrowne.com and a number of stockists in Ireland and worldwide.
Irish, handmade and poured, nasty free and made from delicious ingredients such as Mango Butter and JoJoba Oil. Jo Browne Solid Perfumes are the perfect gift for those who love to travel. Both Patrick and I have and use Jo Browne Solid Perfumes. For me, being able to pop a tube of the perfume into my hand luggage is super. I get to smell and feel like I’m wearing perfume without the hassle of 100ml flight restrictions. (I’ve also used them whilst breastfeeding my two boys, because it felt safe to do so, as I abstained from using regular perfume). Available in Female Oriental Note and Male Woody and Oriental Note – I love wearing the Male Notes just as much, if not more than the Female one. For more on Jo Browne have a read of my Q&A with the award-winning Perfumer here.
Joby GripTight ONE GP Stand
€29.95 from camera.ie
My New Year’s Resolution is to be in more of my photographs – whether they are personal or public. So a gift like this would suit me perfectly. Wrap the Joby around a tree branch, hang it from a railing or simple set it like a tripod. Set the timer and snap away!
