Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park
Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park can be found in Lullymore, Co. Kildare. Opening times vary depending on the time of year – so to prevent disappointment always visit their website for updates. From their website lullymoreheritagepark.com you can also check out seasonal events celebrated at the park throughout the year too.
Our last visit was at the beginning of October, the air was crisp, and threatened rain, but we escaped it and enjoyed the autumn colours throughout the park, woods and the biodiversity peatland boardwalk.
Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park has so much to offer all ages, and celebrates Irish heritage and biodiversity in a unique, fun and interactive way. From brushing up on Ireland’s history and heritage, to learning about Irish nature. Take a walk through the heritage village, and the woodlands, and then out onto the peatlands boardwalk. Grab a coffee or some lunch and dine outside, amongst the trees. And if you have young children, well, a few hours can turn into a full day out – Just take a look at our adventurous day –
Learn about Ireland’s History & Heritage
From the 1798 John Doorly House, to the Irish Famine and ‘Emigration Cottage’, step inside and learn as you walk. There’s and ‘Early Christian Exhibition’, and ‘Stone Age Settlements’, the later of which were a big hit with the boys – we nearly moved in!
Visit the Pet Farm
From the white haired Toggles aka ‘Houdini’ from the movie ‘Little Grey Fergie’ and probably the most famous goat in Ireland to the cutest of bunny rabbits, there are lots of happy looking animals for children to adore.
Catch the Train
The Lullymore train takes you around the park, where you can spot the next place you want to be. Play your cards right and like Smith, you might even get the chance to sound the bell!
A Treasure Hunt AND Fairy Village!
When you enter the park, be sure to pick up a copy of the Lullymore Fairy Quest – then get hunting for the answers and find the Fairy Village when you do, there’s a prize up for grabs. And if you’ve a coin or two, and believe in wishes the Fairy Wishing Pond could help them come through or true!
Lunch Amongst the Trees
Grab a coffee or lunch from the onsite Lullymore Café, or bring along your own picnic to enjoy. The outdoor seating area is a gorgeous spot nestled amongst the trees, with ample space and seating options – even on a rainy day you’ll be protected from the elements – just remember to leave no trace when you’re done.
Follow the Peatland Biodiversity Boardwalk
The peatland boardwalk is a beautiful spot for all the family to enjoy. Take in the nature that surrounds you and learn from the interactive information boards along the way – from bog bodies, to bog usages.
There’s so much to love about this area that has taken 10,000 years to form – its grassy lakes, flowers and fauna just to name a few.
A Round of Crazy Golf and Castle Fun
Ah sure it wouldn’t be a family day out without a bit of playground fun – so says my two wildlings anyway! From swings and slides, to a zipline – climb to the top of the castle even if you haven’t completed your game of crazy golf. Climb down, then do it all again!
Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park offers great learning and activities, outdoor exploring and facilities and super staff. We loved our time there and look forward to returning again.
