Crabtree & Evelyn The Gardeners Collection
Crabtree & Evelyn are renowned for their fragrances, bath and shower gels, soaps, body lotions and hand creams. Starting life as a small family run business in Cambridge, Massachusetts the Crabtree & Evelyn brand is now internationally known, retailing in over 65 countries. If you have a few minutes you should give their story a read, it’s inspiring and gives you a little feel of what they’re all about, and their ethos … which by the way is inspired by naturalism, conservation and the motto from John Evelyn (for whom the business was named after) “explore everything, keep the best” … a motto I’ve been practicing for years unknown to myself!
The Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Collection is made up of all the essentials for getting your hands back to their former glory. The Gardeners Hand Scrub with Pumice and Gardeners Liquid Hand Soap are to ensure those mitts are clean. The Gardeners Antibacterial Moisturising Travel Hand Gel will ensure those mitts keep clean. Finally the Gardeners Nail & Cuticle Cream, Gardeners Hand Recovery and Gardeners Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy will ensure those mitts are as moisturised and soft as they can possibly be.
I was recently gifted the Gardeners 60 Second Fix For Hands (RRP €34.00) for review, and believe me when I tell you, it was perfect timing. Those who follow The Life of Stuff, will know that I am a mother, you will also know that I have recently become a little obsessed with all things ‘grow your own’ and am a novice gardener. Add both these together, being a mother and a wannabe gardener, and the results are hands that were starting to show the signs of ‘wear and tear’ … it’s from all the washing, which I’m sure I don’t need to explain, as a couple of words should do it – nappy changing, potting plants, soil of both kinds.
The instructions that came with this gorgeously presented box was to first apply the Gardeners Hand Recovery and then apply the Gardeners Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy. Simples.
Gardeners Hand Recovery: A little research and I’m advised to use this 3-4 times a week, or more if needed. For the best results I’m advised to shake the bottle before use. Then all I need to do is add a little to my hands, work it around like I’m washing my hands, massaging both front and back, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.
The Results: Wow! The first thing that hits you is the fresh smell. It’s made with Macadamia Nut Oil and Shea Butter but contains no nasties like lauryl sulfates, mineral oil, parabens or propylene glycol. The exfoliating texture feels quite therapeutic as I pretend to wash my hands and massage the cream in. Then its a light rinse under the water and the wow gets bigger. After a gentle pat dry with a towel, my hands feel amazing, so soft to touch. They advertise it as a ‘butter soft finish’ and there really is no other way to describe it.
Gardeners Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy: First things first and I just love the presentation of this hand cream. Directions for this product is to use as a cream to protect your hands from the elements.
The Results: Honestly I’m still wowing over the results of the Gardeners Hand Recovery (if you do buy it you’ll find a little instruction booklet inside the box which advises you to rub your hands before and after using it to feel the difference – do it!). The Gardeners Ultra-Moisurising Hand Therapy does exactly what it says on the tin. It smells lovely and fresh, matching the Hand Recovery aroma of Macadamia Nut Oil and Shea Butter. Like its sister it contains no nasties but it does contain hydrating ceramides and Vitamin E which is known for its antioxidant qualities. It’s a winner.
As mentioned earlier Gardeners 60 Second Fix For Hands retails at €34.00 which in my opinion is very good value considering both creams are 100g each and are usually sold at about €20.00 each.
