Beauty Fix – Max Factor SS 2016 Trends and Product Reviews

Max Factor Spring Summer 2016 Trends

Last month I attended a P&G Beauty Event in the Radisson Blu Hotel on Golden Lane. If you’re not familiar with what brands belong to P&G, then feast your eyes on these well-known faces; Clairol Professional, CoverGirl, Dolce&Gabbana, Gucci, HUGO BOSS, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essence, Max Factor, Nice ‘n Easy, Olay, Old Spice, Pantene, Vidal Sassoon and Wella. There are more but I think you get the drift.

It was a lovely event. I was treated to a mini-facial using Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 Moisturiser, more on that another time. I had my makeup done by Leading Irish Makeup Artist and Max Factor Ambassador Lyndsey Cavanagh, who you probably know from Xposé and all the leading Irish Fashion & Beauty Magazines. My hair was expertly glammed by Hair Stylist to the Stars Trudy Hayes, who is a bit of a messer like myself and owns a great app called Raven (which I haven’t trialled just yet but hope to in the near future, you should check it out). I had a glass of bubbles and received a nice little goodie bag on my way out (no Dolce&Gabbana or Gucci unfortunately) … which will bring me on to my Max Factor Product Reviews in a little while.

First up though here are the Max Factor Spring Summer 2016 Makeup Trends à la Lyndsey Cavanagh …

  1. Statement Red Lips – think Marilyn Monroe perfectly pouty red lips, actually that’s exactly what Max Factor have done with this collection, Nude Skin and Tailored Eye brows.
  2. Graphic Metallic Eyes – think statement metallic colours swept along the bottom lashes, eyeliner flicks on the eyelid … as modelled by Audrey on the evening (pictured below) …
  3. Bronzed – think bronze lips and eyes. You can go very bronze or just keep it subtle with a hint of bronze … a great way to stay on trend.

In my goodie bag I received – Max Factor Face Finity 3 in 1 Foundation (RRP €16.99), Max Factor Facefinity Compact (RRP €14.99), Max Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara (RRP €15.99) and Max Factor Creme Puff Blush (RRP €11.49) … and here are my reviews –

Max Factor Face Finity 3 in 1 Foundation (RRP €16.99) – Light Ivory 40

I actually reviewed this foundation on The Life of Stuff when I first started blogging back in 2012. You can read the review here … and although this hasn’t been my go to ‘everyday’ foundation in some time, using it again reminded me of what I really liked about it in the first place – SPF 20, coverage, anti-shine, the handiness of having a built-in primer and concealer and all for under €20.

Max Factor Facefinity + Permawear Compact (RRP €14.99) – 01 Porcelain

I really like this compact. It looks the part, has a handy mirror in the lid and a sponge to apply the powder. It gave great coverage, even on my skin with no foundation so it’s perfect for those times when you aren’t applying a full face of makeup … you know when you bring the dog for a walk or pop down to the local shop. It’s also a great way to add another layer to your makeup by applying it over your foundation. I’ll be using a brush to apply it at home and will use the sponge when out and about (it’s the perfect size for your bag). The Facefinity Compact is oil and fragrance free and offers SPF 15 to help protect you from the sun.

Max Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara (RRP €15.99) – Black

This little baby came along at the perfect time because my usual go to mascara had just come to an end. Promising a false lash effect is no easy feat but I am happy to let you know this mascara is a winner. At first I was unsure about its volumising ability but it worked. To help achieve it I applied the mascara on the lashes of one eye, then the other, then returned to both consecutively. The wand brush is really big but it works through your lashes separating and coating them at the same time with no spider legs in sight!. I did find the handle of the wand a bit awkward and feel it could be better designed to fit the shape of your fingers as you apply the mascara, but other than that Max Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara gets two thumbs up.

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush (RRP €11.49) – 30 Gorgeous Berries

This creme puff blush is so easy to use, and also really versatile. Max Factor recommend you use a blush brush to apply it. Each of the six shades available are multi-tonal, so you get that ‘gorgeous’ sheen from the colour when it has been applied. I actually applied the puff blush with my finger tips, I don’t know what effect that will have with the blush (natural oils in fingers etc) but it worked a treat and blended so easily, although Max Factor do promise that it leaves no brush lines. I also applied the blush to my eyelids, just in the crease lines and it looked brilliant along with aforementioned Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara, my green eyes popped! To take it a little further I also dabbed some on my lips and it gave my cherub shaped pout a very subtle berry colour. Obviously I’m not advising you do the same, I’m just putting it out there that if you get stuck in the rain with no makeup and this little beauty is in your bag … then make it work for you!
