Travelling The World – Things To Consider Before You Go

Things To Consider Before Travelling The World

#WhenWeTravelAgain

Travelling the world is normally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And because commitments and responsibilities in life grow as people age, travelling when ‘young’ and commitment-free, during a gap year or straight after completing college – is usually a popular time to go travelling the world.

However, with saying that some people may find that when they’re in their late 20s or hit their 30s they’re more than eager to take a career break, cash in their savings and travel the world for a year or two – whether it’s alone, with their partner, friend and/or children.

Before Travelling the World – Decide How Long You Can Travel

You don’t have to travel the world all in one go to visit the top places on your travel ‘bucket list’. The other option, of course, is to travel the world over a period of time where you use chunks of time off work to go on longer holidays.

You can use your weekends to travel the world but for a smaller period of time exploring more places for a shorter amount of time rather than dedicating a whole year to purely travelling. The shorter excursions are more suited to people who need to work and also have other commitments as they can then travel the world in their free time.

Before Travelling the World – Consider a Foreign Currency Account

When you are looking to travel the world over a period of time, certain things can help you make it an easy and stress-free activity. One thing to consider is opening a foreign currency account.

The advantages of owning one is that as and when you travel to different countries you won’t have issues spending your money by having to change cash currency. You can still use your debit card and pay for things without any problems or worries about having the right currency or your cards being frozen by your bank – some people forget to let their bank know they’re travelling, so having a foreign currency account can help solve this issue.

Before Travelling the World – Consider Renting Out your Home

Another ‘thing’ to consider, if you plan on travelling for longer periods, is, if you own your own home, to look at adding your property to Airbnb, so that when you’re away you can still earn money to help pay bills, or even add to your travel budget! – giving you the flexibility to make money even when you’re travelling and exploring what the world has to offer, will always be a plus.

Rather than renting for a fixed time Airbnb is short leasing so if you only want to go away for a week, you can just let your home out for a week – you don’t have anyone fixed into long contracts which prevent you from going back home.

Before Travelling the World – Think About Doing it Alone

When travelling, it’s popular for people to go with a family member, loved one or a friend but sometimes people choose to go alone. There are a number of reasons you might want to travel solo – perhaps you want to experience independence, or maybe you just can’t wait around to find the ‘perfect’ travel companion’.

But travelling solo doesn’t mean that you have to spend your whole time alone. In fact you’ll find being thrown in the deep end, so to speak, will encourage you to make friends while you’re away, and there are lots of different ways that you can meet new people.

One of the ways that you can make sure you meet people is by signing up to different group activities in the places you stay. These usually open up opportunities to chat, and befriend people with similar interests as you – and often taking yourself out of your comfort zone to bond with those who you get on with, can lead to a more enriched travel experience. Remember, many people have made lifelong friends whilst travelling solo.

And if you want to be really organised, before you go travelling the world – join some online travel groups – you’re sure to meet fellow travellers who are happy to share their tips and guides on the cities and places you are yet to explore.
