It’s that time of year again, it’s my birthday month! and this coming weekend is my birthday week! and what has coincided with my birthday weekend for that past few years and more is the Taste of Dublin. Now I know what you’re thinking, birthday month, birthday week … what the hell is Edwina going on about and what kind of Birthday Diva is she, but fret not, it’s not what you think, I just love the month of June and since Patrick and I have been together, which is nearly 11 years!!! we have either holidayed for my birthday week (pre-recession) or celebrated my birthday weekend (2009+). This year’s birthday weekend, like last year’s and the year before will be kicked into action with the Taste of Dublin. Here are links to some photo’s from the 2012 and 2013 events.

Taste of Dublin 2014

Taste buds will be tickled by the Taste of Dublin from Thursday June 12th until Sunday June 15th and I’ll be there with bells on to kick it into action on its opening evening. I really love this Foodie event that is now in its ninth year and has been growing in strength ever since it began. It was the Winner of Best Exhibition and Best Overall Event of the Year at the Event Industry Awards in 2010 and won the Best Exhibition Award in 2011. This year the Taste of Dublin which is sponsored by Electolux, will have a Brazilian Carnival Theme (World Cup and all that) and the organisers have pulled out all the stops with its line up of Top Class Irish and International Chefs. There has been a slight change to the ticket prices this year and they appear more affordable than ever, ranging from €10.00 for standard tickets to €45.00 for VIP tickets and €65.00 for Hospitality tickets. For online booking, visit the Taste of Dublin website here tasteofdublin.seetickets.com

As per usual Florins will be the currency throughout with €1 = One Florin and the majority of sample dishes and glasses of vino costing about €5.00. What we normally do is buy €20.00 worth each and then buy more as we need them. The reason for this is because they are non re-fundable and there are plenty of Florin Banks around the venue.

Simple tips for the event: Bring money, camera, an umbrella if rain threatens, a goo for some fine dining and a thirst for some fine beverages – alcoholic or not. Ladies I normally leave my heels at home – as you will be walking on grass and gravel – wedges are fine. Don’t wrap up too much as it is June after all. Don’t be afraid to ask Chefs, Restaurateurs and Stall Holders questions – that’s what they are there for … and finally have some foodie fun!
