According to the Gaelic calendar, August 1st is the first day of Autumn. And on this day comes the Gaelic festival Lughnasa. Lughnasa is a 2000 year old Celtic festival that celebrates harvest season.

Celebrating harvest season, I’m sure, is something we can all get behind. Agreeing with our ancestors that August 1st is Autumn isn’t something I think we’d be happy to revert to.

Sure the sun is still shining, mostly. The kids are off school, and its peak holiday time. And on that note this August 2022 has lots in store on the island of Ireland when it comes to festivals and celebrations. My top picks are listed here, and as usual, they’re divided by province.
