Festivals this April 2018 on the Island of Ireland

This April 2018 means chocolate shaped eggs and bunnies for many, and although this cacao treat comes high on my agenda, always, there are lots of culturally enlightening, interesting and fun things to do on this beautiful island of Ireland during the month of April, apart from gorging out on your own body weight of the stuff – everything in moderation folks.

Spring has undeniably sprung  what with our longer days, brighter mornings and sunnier skies – and here are the Festivals you should know about to help celebrate it:

April 2018

Now into its second year, Limerick Fringe Festival is an award-winning festival that celebrates creativity and the arts through mediums such as cabaret, comedy, music and dance.

“Limerick Fringe is a new vibrant, multi-genre performance based event hosted in Limerick Ireland. It is a not for profit organisation that looks to support artists and producers to promote new, vibrant and daring arts to a wider audience utilizing non-traditional spaces.”

Limerick Fringe’s vision “is to be an internationally acclaimed fringe event and professional resource, that stimulates, educates and develops audiences and artistic communities.” (limerickfringe.com)

Festival: Irish Vegan Festival

Where: Europa Hotel Belfast

When: April 8th

Website: irishveganfestival.com

This year marks the Irish Vegan Festival’s fourth year in Belfast and this year it takes place over three floors of the gorgeous Europa Hotel. The programme of events is packed with talks and there will be lots of vegan food to taste and buy throughout the day.

Organised by Farplace Animal Rescue – festival goers will also benefit from the warm and fuzzy feeling of helping animals in need because the profits from the ticket sales and the Farplace Animal Rescue stalls at the event will help pay for food and vet bills for rescued animals. Excellent.

Festival: It Takes A Village

Where: Trabolgan, East Cork

When: April 13th – April 15th

Website: ittakesavillage.fm

“Ever fancied being at a festival, hidden away from the world, in a secluded setting on the edge of the Atlantic… with a roof over your head? This coming April, there’s something happening in Cork that will change the way people think about festivals in Ireland. From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th of April, It Takes A Village drops itself on to the landscape in the idyllic and pastoral surroundings of Trabolgan, East Cork.” (ittakesavillage.fm)

What to expect? Well, apart from the fact there are 140 self-catering houses and apartments, and thirty fully-serviced camper-van sites (sounds like the perfect music festival to me already!) there will be three main venues, pop-up stages spread out over the 120 acre site, a swimming pool with wave machine, a hot tub, food trucks selling local produce, activities ranging from talks and walks to go-karting and archery, and of course a stellar line-up!
