MeMeMe Cosmetics, bareMinerals and No7
I wear concealer to hide the dark circles under my eyes. Sometimes they are more noticeable than other times. Gone (for now) are the days where they were the sign of a party laden weekend. Nowadays it’s the circles gained from being a ‘thirty something’ first time mother. Although I better not jinx myself as Jnr has been a great little night sleeper so long may that last.
When I’m looking for a concealer, I look for one that is light enough to not emphasis any fine lines around my eye area, soft enough that it doesn’t dry my skin out and strong enough to cover the dark circles or any blemishes I may have that need a little TLC.
Here are reviews on three of the latest concealers I’ve been using:
MeMeMe – Correct & Perfect Concealer Kit
Available from all good Pharmacies nationwide
I didn’t actually buy this concealer from MeMeMe, it was kindly sent to me to try. With that said, I’d happily part with €8.95 and more for this little concealer kit. The packaging is clever and compact. It has a handy little mirror in the lid and is sturdy enough to fight off the other products in your make-up bag. Correct & Perfect is a two-step concealer kit. The concealer is creamy and hydrating, you can apply using a brush but as it’s quite new I’ve been using my finger tip … I’ll use a brush when it’s half way through. Like all concealers, apply it after your foundation. When you’ve applied the cream concealer, take a brush and add the powder from the bottom of the compact. The powder helps to mattify and is a setting powder to keep your concealer in place. I love this little kit and would recommend it. The colour I use is ‘Nude’ but it is available in ‘Buff’ and ‘Taupe’ as well. Correct & Perfect gets a smiling thumbs up from me.
bareMinerals – Stroke of Light
Available from Brown Thomas, Debenhams and Boots
I’m a big fan of bareMinerals however I wasn’t too sure about this product when I first started using it. Sometimes it takes going away from a product and returning to it to realise how much you like or dislike it. For me absence made the heart grow fonder and I really like Stroke of Light, so much so I’ll be purchasing it again. It comes in a handy tub of 5.5ml and it has a little sponge tip. The secret to using it is to dab a few dots of the concealer under the eye area and then lightly but quickly tap/dab it into place, don’t rub it as you will rub off your foundation and just smear the concealer around. It’s an award-winning concealer from 2013 and you’ll see why when you use it. Available in 20 shades, you should be able to match one to your skin tone. Stroke of Light gets a thumbs up from me.
No7 Instant Radiance Concealer
Available from Boots
What can I say about this. When I went to Boots and availed of the ‘Match Made Service’ which basically is where the Beauty Sales Assistant holds a little device to your face and matches your skin to one of their No7 foundations or concealers, I was very impressed. The little device quickly and efficiently matched the concealer correctly to my skin tone – I’m the lightest shade at ’10’ however although the shade is right for my skin tone and would be a great match as a foundation … My experience is that No7 Instant Radiance is just not strong enough as a concealer. I always choose a concealer that is a shade lighter (sometimes two) than my foundation and this concealer just seems to match my skin tone so well it disappears on my face and not in a good way. I was also told that the product is very similar to YSL Touche Eclat, however I find it lacks substance and is more watery. I find no matter how lightly I brush it onto my skin, it seems to take away my foundation and then just disappear. I have tried adding more, tried adding less. I have used the my finger to tap the concealer into place but it hasn’t worked for me. Perhaps I’m missing something because when I last spoke to one of the Beauticians at Boots, the feedback they had received was very positive. Ah well you win some and you lose some. I really wanted to love this product but it doesn’t love me by the looks of it. Unrequited love! I’m afraid I have to give it a thumbs down for now but that is only my experience and on my skin. It could work wonders for you.
