How to Make Someone’s Day in 4 Easy Ways
Let’s face it, we’ve all been going through a rough year. Though it’s almost over, if there’s one thing 2020 has taught us, it’s that we should all be taking better care of ourselves and looking out for the people we care about.
You might already be thinking about what you would like to do differently in the new year. For some, it might be reducing stress or taking better physical care of your body.
Or, you may want to think about new goals to accomplish and things you had to miss out on this year that you want to take advantage of next year.
While you’re thinking about it, why not consider what you can do for others along the way? Most people think that they have to do grand, sweeping gestures to show someone that they care, but that just isn’t the case. In fact, some studies have shown that small gestures make people feel more loved.
With that in mind, let’s look at four quick and easy ways to make someone’s day. You don’t have to wait until the new year to make someone smile!
1 – Check In On Them
When was the last time you called (not texted) someone you cared about just to check in on them? You never know what someone might be going through or how much they need someone to talk to.
By occasionally calling the people you love just to say hello and check on how they’re doing, you could be doing more for them than you realize.
2 – Send a Thoughtful Gift
You may regularly send the people in your life birthday flowers, but when was the last time you sent something “just because”?
Most people don’t expect to receive random gifts. So, sending one can really make someone’s day in an unexpected and thoughtful way. Your gesture doesn’t need to be anything expensive. Just consider something that would make them smile.
3 – Give Them Praise
It’s very easy for all of us to feel somewhat down on ourselves sometimes. Maybe someone you know lacks confidence or struggles with insecurities. If that’s the case, take the time to say something encouraging about them whenever you can.
Be genuine with your words, and make sure they know you believe what you’re saying. Sometimes, all it takes is a positive word to make someone feel better about themselves.
4 – Be a Listening Ear
Again, this year has been hard on everyone. Some people just need someone to listen to them if they’re going through a hard time. Listening is free, and it doesn’t require any special skills.
If you suspect someone you care about has a lot on their mind, offer to spend time with them and truly listen to what they have to say. They’ll feel better as they’re able to get things off of their chest, and you’ll feel better knowing you were able to help them.
As you can see, it doesn’t have to take much to make someone’s day. And, you don’t have to wait to get started. By putting these easy habits into practice today, you can start to see more smiles around you from the people you love.
