Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Rose
After I saw the shimmer off my friends cheeks on a recent night out and after I’d heard another friend say that it was brilliant and how she got so many compliments when she wore it … I fell for it and bought myself a Shimmer Brick Compact by Bobbi Brown. I’m a sucker I know but sure feck it, if it was going to make my cheeks shimmer and beautify me enough for a compliment (shucks sure we all like the odd one) – I was willing to give it a shot. Not cheap at €42, I hoped that it was going to do these things. I chose the Rose colour but I could have chosen Lilac Rose, Bronze, Pink Quartz, Nectar or Beige.
For my first application which was last night, I used my brush and swept it across all five shades and then applied it to my cheeks like I would normally do. I wasn’t impressed. It felt like I had to reapply a little too much. This evening when I got home I decided to reapply and had a little study of my cheeks … meh! … it still didn’t do anything for me. My conclusion was that I either picked the wrong colour or that I had to be doing something wrong. The later is the truth! The shimmer brick should be used over blush! Doh! What you are meant to do is apply your blush as usual, I still love and use , then you are meant to sweep your brush ‘through all five shades of Shimmer Brick Compact and dust lightly on cheekbones after blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones – where light naturally hits the face – for the most flattering look.’ (www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com)
I tried it again properly over my blush and got results – my cheeks did shimmer … Yay for that! and it looks like the brick will be finding a home in my makeup bag for a long time to come – and not just because it’s supposed to last ages!
They recommend that the Rose colour best matches neutrals, pinks and rose blush shades. I tried it with a pink blush and got a fairly natural dewy look but I also tried it with my favourite MAC Shimmer Blush in Sunbasque. The results were a little darker and had more of a bronzed effect, so depending on what I’m doing and where I’m going I’ll choose between them. The shade that is most likely to suit Sunbasque is the Bronze colour Shimmer Brick so the next time I’ve a few quid to spend on makeup I’ll be investing in that.
For reference if you take the notion to buy a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick you can follow this:
Bronze Shimmer Brick Compact – works well with neutrals and deep blush shades.
Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick Compact – works well with neutrals and pink blush shades.
Nectar Shimmer Brick Compact – works well with neutrals and peach blush shades.
Rose Shimmer Brick Compact – works well with neutrals, pinks and rose blush shades.
Beige Shimmer Brick Compact – works well with neutrals, pinks and peach blush shades.
