MAC Brow Set
I’ve been a fan of MAC Eye Brow pencil for nearly four years now. Its shade in Lingering is the perfect shade for me whether my hair is brown or blonde. You can read an old review on the pencil here. Recently MAC have been celebrating the EYE BROW and as I was in need of a new pencil, I took myself along to the nearest outlet to pick one up and see what else they had in-store and came home with MAC Brow Set.
As I’ve mentioned before I have fine eyebrows, not from over plucking, it’s just the way they grow – fuller above the inner eye and towards the nostril and almost non-existent towards the outer eye and brow bone. They are also quite fair in colour. Eyebrow tints only last a short time so I find myself using pencil everyday to draw them on rather than fill them in. I’m not alone in this as Robin the MAC MUA who looked after me on my visit advised me. She has similar natural eyebrows but as a professional makeup artist, her application was so perfect that you could not tell.
Although she used a gel and brush to apply her eyebrows and get the great shape. She applied my eyebrows on the day using Lingering Eye Brow pencil because that is what I use, and as a busy mother that is what is handiest for me at the moment. The only difference she added was the use of MAC Brow Set … oh and it made a difference alright …
To get a more natural look to my brows Robin applied the pencil and filled my eyebrows further in than I usually do, leaving a space towards the inner eye, nostril area … for this area she left free, she applied the Brow Set, in the shade Beguile, in light strokes brushing upwards to catch the natural eyebrow hairs. She then ran the Brow Set along the rest of my eyebrows to both emphasis the hair and set them in place. This technique took away the sharpened shape to my brow to create a more natural progression of colour.
I have to admit the first and second time I tried to repeat what Robin had showed me, in the comfort of my own home, I failed. Third time lucky and the trick is to use as little of the product as possible on the brush as you sweep it through the eye brows that haven’t been penciled. To remove the excess liquid/gel just scrape the bristles of the brush along the opening of the applicator. When applied correctly you should be able to create a natural more faded colour and define the hairs that do exist.
MAC Brow Set is waterproof, long wearing, isn’t clumpy when applying it and doesn’t flake when it dries. It costs €18.00 and because you only need to sweep it over your brows, it should last you some time.
As mentioned I use the Brow Set with the MAC Eye Brow pencil but its perfect for using with other pencils, eyebrow shadows or gels. It’s perfect for using on its own when you go swimming or are on holidays and in and out of the pool because it will add a waterproof colour and define your brows without adding the hassle of applying full coverage.
