The ‘Entirely hollow aside from the dark’ Tour by Alan-James Burns
Visual Artist Alan-James Burns is about to tour of the Island of Ireland with his artwork ‘Entirely hollow aside from the dark‘.
Created by Alan-James in collaboration with writer Sue Rainsford and sound editor Ian Dunphy, ‘Entirely hollow aside from the dark’ will visit Sligo, Cork, Clare, Dublin and Enniskillen from July to September this year, 2017.
Based on the concept of human thought ‘We all too often talk about what we think and rarely about how we think’ Alan-James’ creation won’t be available in one of the aforementioned city or town Art Galleries. No, because ‘Entirely hollow aside from the dark’ will be a ‘psycho-acoustic sound event’ experienced in a very unique way … in five of Ireland’s beautiful caves.
Selecting which caves to use for this tour was no easy feat but along with extensive research and by working closely with local communities and their clubs, caving communities and their specialists and national parks and their wildlife services, the perfect caves for Alan-James’ artwork were selected.
Caves of Keash, Keshcorran Co. Sligo – 27th, 28th and 29th of July.
Lickhill Cave, Skibbereen Co. Cork, 2nd and 3rd of August.
Aillwee Cave, The Burren, Co. Clare, 24th and 25th of August.
Smuggler’s Cave, Portrane, Co. Dublin, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th of September
Pollnagollum Cave Boho Waterfall, Enniskillen, Fermanagh, 29th of September.
Using the natural auditoriums of the caves, their sound shifting qualities and the use of 3D audio, visitors will be transported into the mind of a person questioning their reality through their inner dialogue.
The tour of this work is core funded by: The Arts Council of Ireland Touring and Dissemination of Work Scheme and kindly supported by Creative Ireland.
Entirely hollow aside from the dark was initially commissioned by Fingal County Council Arts Office as part of ‘Resort Revelations’, 2016.
Please note that tour dates are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
