Sketchy Inc – Irish Art
This article was first published in May 2016 but has since been updated with updated imagery and links.
I’ve been a fan of Sketchy Inc for a number of years now. I first spotted his work in Jam Art Factory, before my blogging days. I remember the attention to detail, the colour, the humour, the familiar landscapes, cityscapes and cultural landmarks all caught my attention, worked its way into my brain and never really left. I also remember wondering who this mysterious artist was underneath the alias.
You won’t find much personal information about Sketchy Inc when you visit the Sketchy Inc website. It doesn’t unveil whether the art you admire is the talent of a man or woman. I like this. It’s all about the art. You can make up your own mind who the artist is … well that is until now, because now you’re going to get to know the artist, just a little bit …
Questions and Answers with Shane O’Connor aka Sketchy Inc
1. What was your inspiration to be come an Artist?
2. How did you officially become an Artist?
Again I don’t remember a point when I officially became an artist, I guess it was when I was finished my Masters and I had to make a living from my art. But even at that point I had been doing a lot of shows and that sort of thing. I remember a long time ago someone asking me what I did and I said I’m an Artist. I think that is when it became a little bit more real. You do get some strange looks from people when you tell them your an artist , ha.
3. Where do you take creative inspiration from for your work?
Honestly I find inspiration everywhere, I’m never without my camera and I’m always scribbling down idea in my notebook. I do find it very inspiring to walk around the streets of Dublin. I think going for a walk is one of the best things you can do for new ideas.
Of course looking at other artists works is very inspiring as well. Sometime ideas just come from working you just sit down in the studio and keep working until you come up with something.
4. What’s the wackiest request you’ve had to date for commission work?
Ha I don’t think I should say…. I do get some pretty strange requests sometimes but the majority of people have a clear idea of what they want.

It’s always great to work with people on the commissioned pieces , I love it when the send me photos of them hanging up in their homes or when they are a gift for someone and they really love it. It makes me really happy.

I’m working on a few different projects at the same time. I have a few commissioned pieces to get finished.
I’m working on a personal project called ‘Remastered’. I’m sourcing old painting and prints of traditional landscapes and painting over them I’m really loving working on this.
