Red Bank 1736 Wine Tavern

I fell in love with the Red Bank Wine Tavern one sunny evening when Patrick and I stopped off from a leisurely stroll around Dublin. Funnily enough we didn’t even drink wine that day but instead sat outside at one of the small coffee tables, drinking coffee, chatting and people watching. This place is full of charm, from its intimate size to its decor. I love that they support the arts by literally adorning their walls with Artists work from their upstairs neighbour the Duke Street Gallery. There’s live music at weekends, a small food menu and a very small smoking area. It’s a must for culture lovers.

The Wine Bar at La Caverna

Most will know La Caverna for its restaurant upstairs at ground level. I’ve dined there and the service and pizza was great. Downstairs however is where you’ll find The Wine Bar set in a renovated 300 year old cellar. My introduction to it was actually at an after-party late one night/early morning but that’s a different story altogether. With a selection of 150 wines to choose from by the glass and many more by the bottle, The Wine Bar at La Caverna is definitely one to add to your list.

I came across No. 5 Vinoteca when I was invited to a Spanish Tourism social evening. It was the ideal place to meet for such a meeting because the whole look and charm of the bar is based on a traditional/typical Spanish Wine Bar. Little sister of The Unicorn by Fiorentina, No. 5 Vinoteca isn’t the first wine bar to occupy the old townhouse it calls home. The townhouse used to be a very popular wine bar before it closed down. Nowadays you can drink some of the best Spanish wine and cava’s around, by the glass and by the bottle. If you’re feeling peckish, I recommend their tapas.

Wine Cellar at Fallon & Byrne

I’ve written about the Wine Cellar at Fallon & Byrne here and elsewhere before. It’s a great spot in the heart of Dublin City. They have a huge selection of wines to choose from, around 600 the last time I checked, that can be ordered straight off the shelf. They have lots of these available by the glass too. There is ample room for big groups, or on a different note, those with prams/buggies. Yes I’d recommend it to all those parents who fancy a glass of wine when out and about with baby … but of course always drink responsibly.

Dublin Wine Rooms

In the heart of the IFSC, Dublin Wine Rooms is a great spot to enjoy a glass … ahem or bottle of wine when the sun is shining because they have a number of white clothed tables outside. Of course there is no stopping you enjoying wine there during the duller days either and the decor inside is charming and inviting. With a special enomatic wine tasting system in place, you can buy your wine by the glass, half-glass or even as a taster. For those who wish to wine and dine, the food here will definitely tickle your taste buds, I’ve tried, tested and loved it.

Ely Wine Bar

Set in a gorgeous Georgian building, Ely Wine Bar sets the ambiance for a delicious glass of artisan wine. With over 500 wines to choose from and a dining menu that includes meats from their own farm in Co. Clare, there’s no doubt why they’ve been in the wine and restaurant business for over 16 years. Although I’d visited their little sister Ely Bar & Brasserie numerous times, it wasn’t until last year that I stepped inside the doors of Ely Bar. I was not disappointed with the wine, food or service and I very much doubt you will be either.

Bagots Hutton Wine Emporium

I’ve written about Bagots Hutton before, which you can read about here. I love what this place offers, a relaxed cool ambiance, good music, really tasty food and wine, you can not forget the wine. It’s a great place for a date, or if you’re part of a group, but book ahead for the later. Set in the heart of the creative quarter, Bagots Hutton are creative when it comes to their offerings and it’s well worth noting their Meaty Monday’s and Cheesy Tueday’s … nom!
