The best time of day to visit Exmoor National Park is in the morning when the air is crisp and the morning sun is low and bright in the clear blue sky. The breath-taking landscape looks all the more enchanting bathed in the copper and gold autumn leaves and you’re sure to spot a famous Red Deer whilst out rambling in the misty fields.

The cool autumn weather means you’ll appreciate Somerset’s cosy country pubs all the more when you pause for a pit stop after a long day of walking. The county’s musical roots (home to the famous Glastonbury festival) ensure you’ll be sure to able to find some live folk music whilst you keep warm over a cheese board and pint of Somerset cider.

Somerset’s beaches are also well worth exploring. The coastline is one of the longest in the UK with the South West Coast Path offering 630 miles of stunning scenery. There are lots of different types of walks to choose from and with it being autumn the crowds will have gone home so you’ll have the beaches to yourself, perfect for if you have dogs. If you’re going to be with children be sure to try one of the treasure trail walks which have fun clues to solve along the way.
