Greywacke Wild Sauvignon
This week I want to recommend an outstanding wine from New Zealand called Greywacke Wild Sauvignon.
This wine is produced in the Marlborough region by Kevin Judd. Kevin Judd was the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay and held the position for 25 years until he left in 2009 to start producing his own wine, Greywacke.
Greywacke Wild Sauvignon is produced with wild yeasts and fermented in old barrels. Fermenting in old barrels gives the Sauvignon a totally different character to which we have come accustomed to with Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The wine feels richer and fuller, multiple layers reveal a very soft herbal character. Flavours of grapefruit and lime are followed by the softest touches of oak and spice.
This wine may be tricky to find but if you know of a good Off Licence the chances are that they will have it or will be able to source it for you.
A bottle will cost around €30. For more on Kevin Judd’s Marlborough label visit the website here.
Enjoy, Sláinte,
Patrick
