Mo Chroí – Supporting The Irish Heart Foundation
If you follow me on Instagram you may remember this recent photo …
… You could say it was an expensive pin at €10.00 but what it stood for it was cheap by comparison and the proceeds were going to a charity close to my heart – no pun intended plus there was a glimmer of hope for a new polo, and not the mint with the hole kind … but farting around aside The Irish Heart Foundation is a charity that means a lot to me. You see I am unfortunate to have ‘bad hearts’ on both sides of my family. I have lost very dear family members to the blasted disease … and with stats like the ones quoted below, I am far from alone in this experience …
Approximately 10,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease (CVD) – including coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and other circulatory diseases. CVD is the most common cause of death in Ireland, accounting for 32% of all deaths. The largest number of these deaths relate to CHD – mainly heart attack – at 5,000.’ (www.irishheart.ie)
Those figures are shocking and what is more shocking is that the good work by The Irish Heart Foundation is funded by 92% of public donations! Wow! So all their hard work which includes providing information on heart health to the public and media, supporting patients in managing heart disease and strokes and providing heart health programmes in schools and workplaces, depends on us, our couple of euro’s and our pin buying!
Someone who wasn’t happy with just buying a pin or two is a chap called Marty who got in touch with me the other day through The Life of Stuff – I’m yet to send him an email so know little about the chap himself (I’ll update this post if I learn more) – anyhoo Marty dropped me line to let me know that over the past few months he set up a charity project called Mo Chroí with the intention of working with artists and musicians to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation. His plan was to set up an Art Book and Compilation Album … He had my attention and now I hope I have yours … this fantastic dream has nearly been realised as the aforementioned Compilation Album has been compiled and released and is now available to buy! Well Done Marty!
Featuring over 100 musicians and 7.5hrs worth of music, Mo Chroí showcases the talent of its participating musicians with genres that range from Acoustic, Down Tempo and Synthwave to Electronic, Experimental and Ambient. Another way of putting it is the way Marty put it, and that is that the album is ‘Guaranteed to have something for everyone’ … nice.
ALL funds raised from the sale of Mo Chroí are donated to the Irish Heart Foundation www.irishheart.ie and it will only set you back a mere €6.00 at mochroi.bandcamp.com/releases !!!
