Brasserie Sixty6, 66-67 South Great George’s St, Dublin 2
A few Saturday’s ago after a charity run, Patrick and I decided to take ourselves and our infant son Smith (who also took part in the run from the comfort of his pram) to Brasserie Sixty6 for Brunch. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm.
I was no stranger to Brasserie Sixty6, that’s for sure. I worked down the road from the restaurant some time ago and had lunched there most weeks. I had also dined there with friends on nights out but I hadn’t been in quite some time so I was looking forward to returning and trying their Brunch Menu.
Our table was booked in advance which is always the safest bet but I know from lunching there that they do take walk-ins and will accommodate you the best they can.
I knew that there wouldn’t be a problem with room for Smith’s pram as I had dined there before. There was ample room between tables and it was lovely to see another couple in the restaurant ‘dining out’ comfortably with their little baby too.
I love Brasserie Sixty6’s decor. It’s clean and stylish, artistic and fun. Its space allows to cater for all occasions, from a dinner for two to a party of 20, with larger parties not infringing on those who fancied a romantic night out.
The staff at Brasserie Sixty6 are great. They’re friendly and attentive, and give the impression that they really like their job which is always great to see and makes you feel welcomed as a customer.
Patrick and I were feeling like winner’s from the buzz of our morning charity run. We were also feeling hungry so when we spotted ‘The Sixty6 Brunch of Champions Mixed Grill‘ for €25 that serves two, there were nods of agreement that that was going to be our choice. We also ordered the ‘Eggs Florentine‘ €10.95, and a side order of ‘Buttered Savoy Cabbage‘, €3.70, for Patrick who loves Irish style cuisine. Did I mention we were hungry? Well here’s the low down on what we ordered just so you’re sure …
The Sixty6 Brunch of Champions Mixed Grill with thick cut pork chop, roast lamb chop, black and white pudding, sausage, crispy smoked bacon, slow roast tomatoes, flat cap mushrooms served with skinny fries and hollandaise’
Eggs Florentine with wilted spinach, poached hens eggs and tarragon hollandaise on a toasted sourdough bap’
Buttered savoy cabbage with smoked bacon’
Oh and because I wasn’t driving and just because Patrick is the best … I got to enjoy an espresso with a twist … a delicious ‘Espresso Martini – Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Tia Maria, Chocolate Bitters, Espresso, Sugar Syrup’, €9.50 … well it did have coffee and it was brunch time!
With my cocktail coming to an end our brunch was served. We asked for everything we ordered to arrive at the same time, and it did. Perfectly timed.
We started with the Eggs Florentine and the dish was delicious. Our compliments to the Chef on the hollandaise because from experience that sauce can truly make or break a dish. In this case it made it. The proportions were perfect, the bap not too crunchy and not soggy, the eggs perfectly poached. Delicious.
The Buttery Cabbage, although not a choice I would have made but one Patrick did, was really tasty. The smoked bacon pieces and butter brought the flavour scale right up.
The main attraction for the day was of course ‘The Sixty6 Brunch of Champions Mixed Grill’, which was deserved of its name and deserves a gold medal. I normally find pork chops to be boring but these were tender and tasty. The lamb was too. The black and white pudding went down a treat. The Brasserie Sixty6 homemade sausages were meaty and moreish. The bacon was perfectly crispy, just the way I like it and the tomatoes and mushrooms added colour to a meat lovers dream. Add to that the fries and that delicious hollandaise and we felt like the champions!
Brasserie Sixty6 Chef’s use high quality ingredients that are fresh from local butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers and bakers, or sourced from international suppliers when needed. The food is delicious, the prices are competitive and the staff are friendly … They have a great social media presence and I’d highly recommend joining their Members Club as they always have great offers, special treats and competitions in their newsletters … so what’s not to love?
Our Brunch at Brasserie Sixty6 was a great dining experience and one I would recommend, so do add it to your ‘Dining in Dublin List’, whether you plan on dining with your loved one, friends, family or the kids (there’s a Children’s Menu available).
