Staple Foods on Curved Street in Temple Bar is open Monday through to Sunday (seven days a week) from 12pm to 5pm (after 5pm the diner is returned to the Button Factory as the Crow Bar). It’s a little different to it’s older sibling over on Gratton Street which opens earlier serving breakfast and closes later serving late lunch. On offer in Curved Street is a selection of tasty, very tasty salads and wraps which you can eat in or take out.
Patrick, Smith and I visited recently and decided to eat in but sit out. There was plenty of space for Smith’s pram indoors but why waste the opportunity to sit in the sun, the little we get of it here in Ireland.
If you have a thing for salads and wraps and haven’t eaten at Staple Foods before then you are in for a treat when you do take yourself along to one of their diners. They use fresh, healthy produce and base their changing menus on the seasons ensuring the aforementioned, fresh, healthy produce is used. Their dishes are adventurous and the name ‘Staple Foods’ reflects what they put into each dish … a staple balance of what is healthy for you.
When we visited, Patrick ordered the {BBQ} pulled pork with a zesty & spicy Asian slaw {DF, soy, sesame seeds} in a wrap, €8.50, and I ordered the jerk Jamaican chicken salad with rice & beans in a sweet & spicy chilli jam {DF, GF, contains nuts & seeds} as a salad €9.50 but we shared both. We drank cooled bottled tap water and finished our lunch off with two specially roasted for @staplefoods coffees, €3 each.
Both dishes were delicous and moreish. Each ingredient complimenting the next. The portion sizes were hearty and we felt satisfied after we had finished eating. We also felt clean, if that makes sence, you know that clean feeling you get after eating something fresh and healthy. The opposite being stuffed, stodgy and doirty.
There was a little delay with our orders but we didn’t mind as the sun was shining. We were apologised to, which makes all the difference so I can honestly say the service was good. If you are bringing your little one with you like we did, just be aware that the toilets on site are those belonging to the Button Factory so there is no baby changing facility … and sure why would there be, it is a live venue after all.
