Green Spot – Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
“Show me the way to the next Whiskey Bar”. Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey, there’s so much out there it’s hard to know where to start. Well I’m going to encourage you to start with Green Spot Irish Whiskey.
Back in the day, distilleries in Ireland would simply make their whiskey and would leave the bottling and selling up to the Wine and Whiskey Merchants. Then, after Irish Distillers were set up, all sales to the Spirits Merchants stopped apart from one, Mitchell’s.
Mitchell and Son’s in Dublin is the only remaining Whiskey Merchant left in the business, and the fire water they sell is Green Spot which is supplied by Irish Distillers from their Midleton Distillery in Cork. A multi-award winning whiskey, this stuff is limited to 6,000 bottles a year, so you will find it very hard to buy outside of Ireland.
Green Spot is matured for six to seven years, linseed and menthol are the dominant characters with some great sherry notes coming through. This is a great whiskey and for around €60 a bottle, it’s well worth it.
Enjoy
Sláinte,
Patrick
