La Castelia Nero D’Avola
This week I would like to recommend a red wine from Sicily called La Castelia Nero D’Avola.
The Nero D’Avola grape is the main red grape variety used in the production of red wine in Sicily. It’s not the most well-known of grape varieties but if you ever go to Sicily you can’t miss it.
The Sicilians are very proud of this grape and why wouldn’t they be. Nero D’Avola produces really good red wine.
This wine La Castelia is excellent. It’s full-bodied yet has a softness about. It gets the juices going in the mouth and flavours of plum and dark berries.
If you can’t find this one just look out for the grape variety Nero D’Avola. I haven’t come across a bad wine made from this grape variety yet.
Expect to pay between €13 to €20 for a bottle.
Enjoy, Sláinte,
Patrick
