This week I would like to recommend a bitter herbal liqueur from Italy called Fernet Branca.
Fernet Branca was first created in Milan back in 1845. It is produced from 27 different herbs from across the world but the exact ingredients are a well-kept family secret which have been passed from father to son for generations. It is aged for one year in oak barrels before bottling.
It’s very hard to describe the flavours of Fernet Branca as there is so much going on. Layer after layer of flavours develop as you drink it. Mint, Citrus, Caramel, Coco and Tobacco flavors all come through and it finishes with a very bitter taste. If it’s your first time to drink Frenet Branca you might be taken aback a little because it’s so full on, but stick with it and you will soon develop a taste for it.
Frenet Branca can be enjoyed after dinner, mixed in cocktails or enjoyed with coke or any other way you want to drink it. A bottle will cost you €30.
